When people think of CoaterZ, they may think of high-end specialty cars – Corvettes or Lamborghinis or BMWs or pricy pickups or Teslas. That’s not wrong – we work on a lot of vehicles like that. But we do quite a few older cars, as well.
Some are just daily drivers that their owners have gotten attached to. Sometimes, they are older cars that are interesting for one reason or another. One of those interesting older cars is the Volkswagen I’ve been driving for the past couple of months.
It’s a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Fahrenheit Edition. Why is it interesting? It’s a limited edition car.
Volkswagen only made the Fahrenheit Edition for one year, and there were only 1200 of them produced for the U.S. market. It has the car number displayed right on the steering wheel – mine says “126 of 1200.” It has a 2-liter turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual transmission.
I enjoy shifting my own gears and it’s a good thing, because with six speeds you do a lot of gear-shifting. It has Brembo brakes all around, and heavy-duty suspension. It’s fast, it corners well, and it’s an all-round fun car to drive.
But it’s got one enormous drawback. All 1200 of the Fahrenheit cars were painted yellow. And not just yellow – I mean eye-popping, cornea-burning, blinding yellow that makes the car painful to look at.
I liked this car a lot when I first saw it, but I didn’t like the yellow. Not even a little bit. So Corey and I put our heads together and decided that CoaterZ would make some changes to the Fahrenheit.
Those changes are underway, so stay tuned. I’ll do more postings about this car as we make progress.
